A 17-year-old provisional licence holder has been intercepted allegedly travelling 189km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Sunshine Motorway at Mountain Creek, just after midnight on Friday, 31 January.
Police detected the vehicle at approximately 12.13am during routine patrols and intercepted the driver shortly after.
The driver was issued a $1854 infringement for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h, the highest category of speeding offence in Queensland, along with an automatic 6 month licence suspension and eight demerit points.
They also received additional infringements for defective vehicle ($322) and failing to display P-plates ($267) as required under Queensland road rules.
