PAEC Hearings Reveal Labor's Health Infra Failures

Liberal Party Victoria

Victorians continue to pay the price for Labor's waste and mismanagement, despite repeated promises to deliver the health infrastructure our growing and ageing population needs.

Today's Public Accounts and Estimates Committee (PAEC) hearings revealed a clear pattern of broken promises, secrecy, cover ups, delays and underinvestment.

  • Planning for upgrades at Mildura Base Public Hospital remains shrouded in secrecy. Neither the 2020 service plan nor the masterplan -crucial documents outlining emergency and bed capacity-have been released. Meanwhile, the Emergency Department continues to suffer some of the worst wait times in the state, with devastating consequences for patients left waiting for care.
  • Community hospitals remain delayed and empty. Despite being announced in 2018, the Minister could not confirm when the seven promised hospitals will be operational or how much each has cost. Local communities continue to go without the urgent care, mental health, dental and specialist services they need.

Shadow Minister for Health Georgie Crozier said: "Once again, we've seen the Allan Labor Government talk up its infrastructure record while delivering delays, cost blowouts and excuses."

"Labor's secrecy, spin and refusal to answer basic questions at PAEC shows just how far they'll go to cover up their failures.

"Labor can't manage money, can't manage projects, can't manage health and it's Victorians who are paying the price."
