Pair impersonate police during aggravated break-in at Lake Illawarra

Four people have been charged following an alleged aggravated break and enter in the Lake Illawarra region.

About 2am yesterday (Monday 27 January 2020), police will allege two males forced their way into a property on Winnima Way, Berkeley, and pretended they were police officers.

The single occupant, a 23-year-old man, was allegedly punched in the face before the pair stole his car keys, Honda Civic sedan, mobile phone and personal identification.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

About 3pm the same day, police observed the Honda Civic sedan travelling on the Princes Highway at Nowra.

After the vehicle allegedly failed to stop, a police pursuit was initiated; however, it was terminated shortly after due to safety concerns.

The car was later found crashed into fence on the Princes Highway and all occupants of the vehicle ran from the scene.

A bag was located nearby – which contained a loaded imitation firearm, ammunition, drug paraphernalia, and methylamphetamine – and seized to undergo forensic examination.

Following a short foot pursuit, a 17-year-old boy, two men - aged 19 and 21 – and an 18-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

The 19-year-old man was charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

The 21-year-old man was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

The 18-year-old woman was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously.

All three were refused bail to appear at Nowra Local Court today (Tuesday 28 January 2020).

The 17-year-old boy was charged with never licenced person drive vehicle, drive conveyance without consent of owner, and police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a Children's Court on Thursday 30 January 2020.

Investigations are continuing.
