Paraguay Hosts 2nd National Youth Climate Leaders' Summit

The "National Summit of Young Leaders for the Climate" was held on Friday 28 October. The summit is an initiative of the organisation Asociación Defensores del Chaco Pypore, which promotes the participation and empowerment of children and young people on issues of climate change, biodiversity and water resource management.

The event took place at the National Congress for the second consecutive year. More than 60 young people between 15 and 30 from different parts of the country were in attendance. The initiative is part of the activities promoted by the National Youth Network for Climate Action in Paraguay with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADES); the National Commission for the Defence of Natural Resources (CONADERNA); the United Nations Children's Fund Paraguay (UNICEF); Cooperation International (Coopi), AlterVida, Asociación Paraguay Orgánico, Ñañua Paraguay and the British Embassy in Asunción.

During the event, Ambassador Ramin Navai addressed the young people to congratulate them on their commitment to the fight against climate change. He noted that the youth population in Paraguay is twice as large as that of the UK, and urged the young leaders from different parts of the country to take their learning back to their respective communities.
