Parents encouraged to book free swim classes

Eight-year-old Asaiah Robinson from Edens Landing has increased his confidence in the water through learn to swim classes at Logan's aquatic centres.

Parents can access free swimming lessons for their young children in the City of Logan this month.

The Paddle Splash program operates for a month during each swim term.

It will kick off on Monday, November 25 and run until Friday, December 20.

The program includes four free introductory swimming lessons for children aged from three-months-old to three-years-old.

The classes are at the Logan North Aquatic Centre and the Beenleigh Aquatic Centre.

Paddle Splash allows children to learn basic swim skills and increase their independence and mobility in the water.

General learn-to-swim classes are held 44 weeks of the year in the indoor heated pools.

Children from four months of age can be booked into classes as experts say it is never too young to teach them water safety.

Lessons run for 30 minutes.

A free assessment with the centre's qualified instructors is held before classes begin to assess a child's swimming ability.

This sets the base for a fun-filled swimming experience and allows children to progress at a comfortable rate.

The program is strongly focused on water safety and swimming skills.

Council wants as many children as possible in the Logan community to have swimming lessons to ensure they are safe in the water.
