Rockhampton Regional Council is putting the final touches on Mason Avenue, with residents, school children and parents all set to benefit from the $250,000 project designed to extend the life of the road for many years to come.
Council crews began works in December to replace the road by excavating and rebuilding it, then applying a new asphalt overlay - all while retaining the existing kerb and guttering as a cost‑saving measure.
Infrastructure Councillor Marika Taylor said the works were necessary due to significant deterioration of the existing pavement.
"The works along Mason Avenue will improve the durability and safety of this road for years to come," Cr Taylor said.
"Mason Avenue is a very busy street, particularly around school pick-up and drop-off, so upgrades like this are essential to ensuring the longevity of our roads."
Divisional Councillor Shane Latcham welcomed the completion of the works.
"With a school, childcare centre and homes located on this street, it's important we keep it safe for everyone who is using it," Cr Latcham said.
"I want to thank our crews for their hard work to finish this job on time, and the community's patience while the project was underway."
