Parklands to sparkle with festive cheer

Munro Martin Parklands will twinkle and shine with festive spirit these holidays with a special Christmas show for the whole family to enjoy.

Presented by the Cairns Regional Council and produced by local theatre company Box Jelly Theatre Co, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is the third Christmas Pantomime produced especially for the Parklands.

In 2016 the Parklands hosted its first Panto, A Cairns Christmas Carol, to the amusement of nearly 2,000 festive families and revellers.

Following the magic of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas in 2017, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever continues the Panto in the Parklands series in 2019.

Mayor Bob Manning said Munro Martin Parklands sets the perfect scene for a Christmas Panto, with families, friends and little ones coming together under the tropical night sky, lazing about on blankets with picnics and plenty of festive cheer.

"It's such a spectacular venue for this sort of performance and a wonderful place to celebrate everything great about Christmas in Cairns," Cr Manning said.

Under the clever and creative reign of Box Jelly Theatre Co,the show pulls together local professional talent from around the Far North region for a purely home-grown cast.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever sees the Herdmans – the worst kids in 'The History Of The World' – crash the annual Christmas Pageant and demand leading roles, soon creating bedlam in Bethlehem.

Reluctant director Grace is out of her depth, the pageant cast are ready to mutiny, and the Herdmans are fast-turning the Christmas story into a Super Hero showdown; this is shaping up to be the worst Christmas Pageant ever!

This hilarious plight of putting on a show within a show will have audiences young and old, laughing and singing along.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever takes place on Saturday 14 December in Munro Martin Parklands. Tickets cost $15.75 for adults and $10.50 for concessions, students and families of four (2 adults and 2 children), and are available from Ticketlink and also at the gate on the night. Children under 3 are free.
