Parks and reserves remain closed due to extreme weather

The ACT Government wishes to advise that due to flooding and high winds, multiple parks and reserves in the ACT will remain closed between Wednesday 24 March and Monday 29 March (inclusive).

The following parks and reserves are closed during this period:

  • Namadgi National Park
  • Lower Cotter Catchment
  • Murrumbidgee River Corridor including Cotter, Pine Island, Kambah Pool, Casuarina Sands and Uriarra Crossing
  • Googong Foreshores and Googong Dam
  • Molonglo River Reserve
  • Caves Crossing and Murrays Corner Crossing on Paddys River
  • Blue Range Campground
  • Woods Reserve Campground
  • Cotter Campground

Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and the Namadgi Visitor Centre will reopen Saturday 27 March.

The ACT Parks and Conservation Service will continue to assess the impacts on the environment and built assets over the coming days. These assessments will guide any decisions on possible extensions to closed areas beyond Monday.

This decision has been made for the safety of the Canberra community. There has been a large amount of rainfall over the past couple of days which has saturated soil in the region, and the community should take extra care when out in opened areas of Canberra Nature Park.

Flood waters can occur suddenly and without much warning, leaving you trapped or stranded if you are unprepared. Steer clear of low-lying areas such as creeks, stormwater drains or other causeways.

Strong winds are dangerous and will move fallen trees unpredictably and can even topple or uproot standing trees.

Stay up to date with road closures on the ACT City Services website, take care on roads, and follow all signage and alternate routes provided.
