The Tasmanian Parliament has today voted unanimously, calling on the Federal Labor Government to commit to supporting Bell Bay Aluminium.
Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, Felix Ellis, said it was time Canberra backed Bell Bay.
"If there are billions of dollars in support for mainland smelters, there is money to support the 550 direct jobs at Bell Bay Aluminium," Minister Ellis said.
"We must remain united in our efforts to ensure Canberra is not let off the hook.
"Tasmanian Labor's decision to support these amendments is welcome, and the community would expect this approach to continue."
