Participants urged to plan ahead as Event Expo opens ahead of Sydney Running Festival, NSW

Police are urging Sydney Running Festival participants to plan ahead by collecting their kit and dropping off their gear ahead of this weekend’s event, NSW Police say.

Race organisers are expecting large crowds in Lower Town Hall, from tomorrow, through to Saturday (17 September 2016), as participants prepare for the race at the ASICS Event Expo.

More than 32,000 people are registered to take part in the festival that gives runners a unique opportunity to cross the Sydney Harbour Bridge this Sunday (18 September 2016), so participants are encouraged to attend the Expo early or expect delays.

Operation Ronan, a high-visibility police operation, will be in place this weekend to ensure the safety and security of all participants, event staff and the wider community.

Operation Ronan Commander, Superintendent Allan Sicard, urged participants to take this opportunity to plan ahead and visit the Expo to ensure you’re organised for race day.

"To avoid any last-minute stress, our best advice is to plan ahead, which includes participants arriving at the Expo early to pick-up your event kit and drop off your finish-line gear," Supt Sicard said.

"Also remember if you’re not able to attend the Expo, a friend or family member can attend with your race information on your behalf.

"There’ll be limited time to check-in your gear on Sunday; however, you can easily check your gear in with staff at the Expo that will then be delivered to the finish line," Supt Sicard said.

"A baggage sticker is included in your event kit to label your belongings, and people are reminded its best not to leave valuables such as wallets or phones within the bags provided."

Supt Sicard said runners should also plan their trip to the Expo by utilising the many public transport services on offer.

"With tens of thousands of people registered for the Sydney Running Festival, we are expecting large crowds to make their way to the Expo over the next four days," Supt Sicard said.

"However, with the convenient CBD location, it’s very easy for participants to catch one of the many train and bus services available to and from Town Hall."
