Partnering with industry to enhance Australia's cybersecurity

The Morrison Government continues to work with Australian industry experts to enhance Australia's cybersecurity and protect the digital economy.

Minister for Home Affairs Karen Andrews welcomed the release today of the Cyber Security Industry Advisory Committee's (IAC) first Annual Report, launched at the National Press Club by IAC Chair and Telstra CEO Andy Penn.

"The Committee's expert advice is helping the Government to ensure that the $1.67 billion Cyber Security Strategy 2020 creates a more secure online world for Australians, their businesses and the essential services upon which we all depend," Minister Andrews said.

The IAC Report recognises the substantial body of work already completed under the Strategy, and makes a number of recommendations for further focus over the coming year, including on government-industry collaboration, cyber security awareness raising, and protecting our cybersecurity while working from home.

"The Report supports the Government's continued effort to increase Australia's cyber security across the economy, further supporting the Digital Economy Strategy announced by the Prime Minister in May 2021," Minister Andrew said.

"Our first priority has been to protect critical infrastructure and systems of national significance, with that legislation now before the Parliament.

"This week I also announced the opening of consultation on further proposed reforms, which will ensure we get cybersecurity right for the rest of Australia's digital economy.

"The IAC's advice has been an important contribution to these activities and I look forward to further engagement with them on these important topics as the cyber situation continues to evolve."

The IAC was established in October 2020 to help guide the implementation of Australia's Cyber Security Strategy 2020 and to provide ongoing advice about the best ways to address emerging cyber security challenges.
