People of all ages are invited to a day of free activities on Saturday 26 September at Charlie Lowles Leisure Centre Emerton to celebrate a milestone in 2026.

Enjoy a free swim, a slice of birthday cake and a party atmosphere in honour of 20 years since the venue expanded.

Take part in a mega aqua aerobics class, have your face painted, win prizes and enjoy live music.

Blacktown City Mayor Brad Bunting encouraged people to celebrate the role the centre had played in their lives.

"This is a celebration of the people, memories and community spirit that have made Charlie Lowles Leisure Centre Emerton such a special place," he said.

"The venue's upgrade in 2006 provided more opportunities for people to learn to swim, participate in group fitness and enjoy a broader range of activities."

Charlie Lowles OAM was a longstanding Mayor and Councillor of Blacktown City. The centre was named in his honour in 2017 to acknowledge his community service.

Three regular visitors who have formed a strong friendship at the venue are Judy Foster, Nada Hughes and Diane Jones.

They met through the group fitness classes on weekdays. Classes range from HIIT (high intensity interval training), boxfit, mind and body, and more.

The women's friendship has blossomed. They have enjoyed many nights out, birthdays and Christmas parties together.

Ms Hughes said keeping fit was not the only reason to attend the classes.

"There is a great sense of community here," she said.

"People come here for companionship as well as fitness, and you don't have to be ultra fit to show up."

The celebration on 26 September will include a special offer to help our community get fit for summer. Those who join the Health and Fitness program on the day will receive 10 per cent off memberships and a waived joining fee.

The festivities will run from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm and everyone is invited.
