A man is in police custody following an incident of the Spirit of Tasmania ferry tonight as it was leaving Devonport, bound for the Port of Geelong.
As a result of the disturbance on board involving a lone male passenger, the ship's captain aborted the scheduled 6.45pm sailing out of Devonport after the Spirit had travelled only about 50m.
The man was isolated in an area aboard the Spirit while the ship turned back.
The Spirit docked about 7.30pm, where it was met by police.
A Tasmanian man, aged in his mid-30s, was safely taken into custody.
Some property damage has been reported. There are no reports of any passengers being injured.
The Spirit later resumed its sailing to Geelong.
The incident remains under investigation.
