Pathways to COVID-19 recovery

From disengaged students, stories of isolation and loneliness, to vulnerable business and community groups and increased rates of family violence, COVID-19 has had wide-ranging impacts across Mitchell Shire.

To help address these impacts, Mitchell Shire Council endorsed the COVID-19 Community Recovery Plan at its April Council Meeting.

Developed over six months and based on an impact analysis and input from community groups, organisations and service providers late last year, the plan identifies seven priority support areas: active communities; gender responsiveness; local jobs and investments; re-engaging in education and training; access to services; climate consciousness and housing options to support health and wellbeing outcomes.

The plan includes short, medium and long-term actions for council, service providers, organisations and community members to help people in the community who have been hit the hardest by the impacts of the pandemic.

The actions aim to support COVID recovery, address disadvantage and encourage social reconnection.

As well as supporting COVID recovery, the initiatives also support the creation of strong community networks for other potential disasters that could occur in the future such as floods, fires and storms.

Mitchell Shire Council would like to thank everyone who shared their experiences and took part in the surveys for this plan.
