A patient has been charged after allegedly stabbing a doctor in Sydney's CBD last week.
About 7pm on Friday (26 September 2025), emergency services responded to reports of an assault at a general practice on Pitt Street, Sydney.
Upon arrival, officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command found a doctor – aged 85 – with a stab wound to the neck.
He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious injuries before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.
A 57-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Surry Hills Police Station, before being taken to hospital for assessment where he remains under police guard.
A crime scene was established and investigations commenced into the circumstances of the incident.
On Saturday (27 September 2025), the 57-year-old man was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Police will allege in court the man was being treated by the doctor when he stabbed him.
He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Sunday (28 September 2025), where he was further refused bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 27 November 2025.
