The Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start for Queensland's vibrant arts sector and has appointed Paul Taylor as the new Chair of the Queensland Art Gallery Board of Trustees, which oversees the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA).
The current Board member and philanthropist's appointment as Chair brings new leadership to the state's premier institution for visual arts, following his two-year appointment.
A respected advocate and supporter of the arts, Mr Taylor joined the Queensland Art Gallery Board of Trustees in 2017 and has been a QAGOMA Foundation Committee member since 2012, and championed QAGOMA's Collection Online Campaign.
Mr Taylor brings extensive financial, business strategy and corporate governance expertise to the role as the Head of Investments Australia and Portfolio Manager for Fidelity Australian Equities Fund. He also holds a Master of Finance from the London Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce and Business from the University of Queensland.
A benevolent supporter of many of Queensland's arts and cultural organisations, Mr Taylor was recognised with Creative Partnerships Australia's Philanthropy Leadership Award in 2022 for the significant impact he has made to Australia's arts sector.
Minister for Education and the Arts John-Paul Langbroek said Mr Taylor's appointment as Chair will further strengthen the governance and strategic direction of QAGOMA.
"Through his deep commitment to the arts, exceptional advocacy and leadership, Mr Taylor has contributed valuable insights to QAGOMA in his position as Board member," Minister Langbroek said.
"I welcome his appointment as Chair, and I have no doubt his skills and experience will ensure QAGOMA continues to thrive as the state's flagship art gallery.
"I want to acknowledge and thank outgoing Chair Professor Emeritus Ian O'Connor AC for his invaluable contributions to the Queensland Art Gallery Board of Trustees over the past eight years.
"Under Professor Emeritus Ian O'Connor's leadership, QAGOMA has delivered inspiring programming and firmly established itself as an internationally significant art museum.
"The Crisafulli Government is proud to invest in QAGOMA to deliver extraordinary arts experiences that attract millions of locals and visitors to the state and strengthens Queensland's reputation as a leading cultural tourism destination."
QAGOMA's outstanding 2025 program includes the 11th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, the Australian debut of Archie Moore's kith and kin and major exhibition Wonderstuck, which will captivate art lovers from across Australia and overseas.
