PBR Will Be Cracker

Orange Council

Orange residents are being urged to get the cowboy on ahead of the arrival of the Professional Bull Riders at Wade Park on Saturday 20 September.

Orange Mayor Tony Mileto said the Monster Energy Tour will bring some of the biggest names in Australian bull riding to the city.

"The next closest regional cities on the tour are Nowra and Tamworth so this is a coup to bring this event to Orange," he said.

"We've had some big sporting and cultural events at Wade Park in the past but this is our first bull riding event there. We have rodeos in town before but using Wade Park opens up the event to a bigger crowd with the grandstand and better supporting amenities. The capacity for the event is 3700 and there are just 500 tickets left available."

Orange City Council has been working with PBR and has taken the opportunity to host the event at the city's premier sporting facility in a window between winter and summer sports.

The arena for the PBR event will be between the pitch and the grandstand on the western side and there will be an exclusion zone around the pitch for its protection. The arena will be on a sand base that will be installed on site.

Every year at the end of the winter season Council renovates the surface of Wade Park. This involves removing the top layer of turf and then top dressing with sand.

Council has requested PBR utilise a specified sand for their area that can be used for the topdressing process at the conclusion of the event. Track matting will also be used to protect the surface as the sand is moved onto the ground. It is anticipated there will be some minor disturbance to the surface however this will be managed as part of the annual field renovation process.

Cr Mileto said Council's professional greenkeeping staff have assessed the proposal and how the impact on the site can be managed.

"As it is in the winter/summer widow and will precede the annual surface renovation it was worth managing that impact to secure such a great event at a great venue," he said.

"Given PBR's reputation; think the NRL of bull riding, we saw this as a fantastic opportunity to bring a nationally recognised, high-energy sporting event to Orange. The event combines elite-level bull riding with world-class production, offering a thrilling experience for spectators and a unique addition to our local events calendar."

The surface at Wade Park has been used for other events including the Beach Boys concert, Nitro Circus and the upcoming Freestyle Kings.
