Pedestrian death in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a pedestrian at Alice Springs Hospital last night.

Detective Superintendent Joanne Foley said, "A 49-year-old man is currently in police custody after a witness identified him as the alleged driver of a blue Ford Falcon that struck a 46-year-old woman in the hospital carpark before leaving the scene around 9:45pm.

"Hospital emergency staff attended the woman however she died a short time later."

Investigations are continuing and police expect to lay charges today.
