Pedestrian dies in hospital after Essendon collision

A 99-year-old woman has died in hospital after being hit by a tram in Essendon yesterday.

Police have been told a woman riding a mobility scooter was crossing Mount Alexander Road near Lincoln Road when she was hit by a tram about 1.20pm.

An Essendon North woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where she died yesterday afternoon.

The tram driver and a number of passengers were not injured.

Fawkner Highway Patrol officers are investigating and are keen to speak to the passengers who had left the tram before police arrival.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
