Pedestrian hit by car in St Albans

Police are appealing for public assistance and are hoping to speak to a truck driver after a pedestrian was hit by a car in St Albans early this morning.

Police have been told a woman was crossing four lanes on St Albans Road near Elm Avenue and was waiting in the middle of the road to cross about 7am.

It is believed a dark coloured truck was travelling south-bound when the woman stepped back and was struck by a white Mazda utility travelling north-bound.

Both drivers of the ute and truck stopped to assist the woman, however the truck driver left the scene prior to police arrival and officers are keen to speak to that driver.

The pedestrian, a woman aged in her 60s was taken to hospital with head injuries.

The driver of the ute is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

Melton Highway Patrol officers are investigating and are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone that may have dash-cam footage.
