Pedestrian suffers critical injuries; Driver charged in Sylvania

A woman remains in a critical condition after being hit by a car as she cross the road at Sylvania yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 4.45pm (Tuesday 27 November 2018), a Toyota Lexus, being driven by a 19-year-old man, was travelling south on Port Hacking Road when it allegedly crashed into a pedestrian at the intersection of Melrose Avenue.

The pedestrian, a woman aged 77, suffered critical head and spinal injuries and was taken to St George Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

The driver was arrested at the scene and taken to Sutherland Hospital for mandatory tests.

He was then taken to Sutherland Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.

His licence was suspended, and he is due to appear in Sutherland Local Court on Thursday 13 December 2018.
