Pedestrians picked up doing the wrong thing in Box Hill

Police have delivered a timely reminder to pedestrians that they too have a role to play in road safety over the holiday period, Victoria Police say.

Box Hill Police officers yesterday (December 27) detected 27 pedestrian offences during Operation Roadwise patrols in the Whitehorse Road and Market Street area.

All 27 offences, detected by officers patrolling in plain sight in full, high-visibility uniform, resulted in infringement notices for disobeying pedestrian signals.

Disappointingly, among those who failed to obey the pedestrian signals were a mother and grandmother accompanying a five-year-old child.

Officers also issued several infringement notices to drivers using mobile phones and a truck driver was also issued infringement notices for using his mobile phone and not wearing a seat belt. It was also ascertained that the vehicle he was driving was in an un-roadworthy condition.

Several bicycle offences and motorcycle offences were also detected.

Pedestrians have sadly accounted for three deaths on Victorian roads during Operation Roadwise, which sees police have an increased focus on the main causes of fatalities and serious injuries which include; excessive speed, driver distraction, seatbelt non-compliance, fatigue and drink and drug drivers.
