Penfold Welcomes Completion Of East Seaham Road Upgrade

NSW Nationals

Federal Nationals Member for Lyne, Alison Penfold, has welcomed the completion of roadworks on East Seaham Road at East Seaham, delivered with the support of the Australian Government Black Spot Program.

The project improves safety on a known high-risk section of road, with targeted upgrades funded through the federal program, alongside contributions from the NSW Government and Port Stephens Council.

A total of $7,181,418 was invested in the project.

• Australian Government Black Spot Funding: $842,000

• 2023 NSW Government Election Commitment (part of $10 million roads package): $2,832,000

• Council contribution: $3,507,418

Ms Penfold said the project was a long time in coming for locals and demonstrates the importance of all levels of government working together to deliver safer roads for regional communities.

"This 3km stretch of road work has seen the end of the last potholed unsealed section of East Seaham Road. Locals have long campaigned for this road work to be completed and I hope that this upgraded section of road makes a huge difference to them getting about their business and their lives," Ms Penfold said.

"The Black Spot Program targets locations with a history of crashes or a high risk of serious incidents, and this upgrade will help reduce that risk for everyone using the road."

"I thank Port Stephens Council and the team of engineers and contractors for their great work.

Ms Penfold said regional communities deserve continued investment in infrastructure that keeps people safe and supports local connectivity.

"This is a strong outcome for East Seaham and the surrounding community, and I will continue to advocate for practical investments that improve safety and strengthen our regional and rural road network, including the serious need for grade-separated interchanges at Medowie Road and the Bucketts Way.

The Black Spot Program funds safety improvements such as road realignments, intersection upgrades and other measures aimed at reducing serious crashes and saving lives.
