Penrith City Council is proud to announce it is again supporting the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, running from 25 November to 10 December.
Penrith City Council has chosen the theme, We Can All Be Heroes, which highlights the power of everyday choices-acts of respect, care and courage-to create safer communities for all. By focusing on the impact of these everyday actions, Council aims to encourage all members of the community to participate actively in building an environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and supported.
The campaign features a moving community poem, shared anonymously by survivors and community members. Council invites everyone to join the Annual Walk Against Violence along the Nepean River and to witness the Civic Centre glowing orange in a city-wide show of hope and solidarity.
Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said that everyone in the community has the power to make a difference.
"By standing up, speaking out and showing respect and care, we can all be heroes in the fight against gender-based violence. Let's walk together, pledge together and light up our City in support of a safer future," he said.
The Walk Against Violence will take place on Sunday 7 December, starting at 9am. Participants should meet at the blue tree on Nepean Avenue.
