Performers shivering with antici...pation over Rocky's Rocky Horror Show News

Rockhampton performers will be shivering with antici…pation with the news that expressions of interest are being called to be part of Rockhampton Regional Council's production of Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show.

Rocky's Rocky Horror Show, scheduled to be performed in March 2026, will be the first time Brad, Janet, Riff Raff, Magenta, Columbia and Frank'n'Furter have graced the Pilbeam Theatre stage in the musical in more than 40 years.

The first step in the process is to recruit the Creative Team – Director, Musical Director, Choreographer, Vocal Director, Costume Co-ordinator and Repetiteur with expressions of interest for these positions now open.

For those wanting to put on the fishnets and suspenders, auditions for cast members will be held in approximately September.

Rockhampton Regional Council Communities, Arts and Heritage spokesperson Cr Wickerson said:

"The Rocky Horror Show is a great musical and a lot of fun both for audiences and those involved," he said.

"People have been asking the Pilbeam Theatre for decades to do The Rocky Horror Show as a community musical. The amateur performing rights only became available this year, so theatre staff jumped at the chance.

"I am sure there will be a lot of people wanting to audition or take part in some other way. There will be auditions for cast members in due course and I encourage people to follow the Pilbeam Theatre Facebook page for details.

"Rockhampton Regional Council's annual musicals have developed a strong following over the years with shows like Mamma Mia!, Jersey Boys, Grease and RENT, so Council is very pleased to produce another great musical for locals and visitors to enjoy," Cr Wickerson said.

The Rocky Horror Show is one of the world's most performed musicals, with hardly a year going by without a performance of the show somewhere in the world.

Australia was one of the first countries to fall in love with The Rocky Horror Show. It opened in Sydney less than a year after the London premiere and ran in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide for just over three years.

The Pilbeam Theatre has hosted two touring productions of The Rocky Horror Show in the past. The first, in 1982 with Daniel Abineri as Frank'n'Furter, and then again in 1985 with Joe Daniels in the coveted role.

Expressions of interest are currently open for the Creative Team (Director, Musical Director, Choreographer Vocal Director, Costume Coordinator, Repetiteur). Applications close at 5pm on Sunday 27 July.

Cast auditions and other expressions of interest will open in due course.
