Permanent Cross-Border Commissioner Appointed

  • Mr Bob Gee APM, Acting Victims' Commissioner and respected former Queensland Deputy Police Commissioner, has been appointed as the permanent Cross-Border Commissioner for Queensland.
  • Mr Gee will build on the work of the inaugural Cross-Border Commissioner, the late Ian Leavers APM.
  • The Cross-Border Commissioner works on issues facing communities along Queensland's borders.

The Queensland Government has appointed Bob Gee APM as permanent Cross-Border Commissioner for Queensland.

Mr Gee has broad government experience, previously serving as Director-General of various departments including Youth Justice and Victim Support and senior Queensland Police roles including Deputy Commissioner and State Disaster Coordinator.

Mr Gee will work with community members and businesses as well as government, regional and industry stakeholders to lower crime and address other challenges facing those living on Queensland's borders.

Premier David Crisafulli said Mr Gee bought extensive experience to the role.

"Mr Gee has many years experience working across government as well as more than three decades serving the community as a Queensland Police Officer," Premier Crisafulli said.

"He has a long, proven track record and hands-on experience that communities and businesses along our borders will benefit from.

"I would like to thank Damien Walker, Director-General, Department of the Premier and Cabinet for filling the role during this interim period.

"Mr Gee will continue to build on the strong foundations created by the late Ian Leavers."

Mr Gee said he was proud to take on the appointment and committed to providing strong leadership for Queensland border communities.

"The Cross-Border Commissioner is central to improving and resolving issues that affect communities and industries operating across Queensland's borders," Mr Gee said.

"I am looking forward to working with those communities to achieve the best possible outcomes relating to the real issues that impact their daily lives, while respecting the great work of the late Ian Leavers."

Ms Kate Connors who has been Acting Director-General Youth Justice and Victim Support, will take up the role vacated by Mr Gee and has been appointed as the new permanent Victims' Commissioner.

Ms Connors has 25 years' experience in policy, strategy and law reform and has worked for the NSW, Commonwealth and Queensland Governments.

Mr Michael Drane, Deputy Director-General Youth Justice and Victim Support, has been appointed to fill the role of Acting Director-General, Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support.
