A Mount Martha survivor of stroke who put his body on the line to raise money for a cause close to his heart has been named a finalist in the 2023 Stroke Awards.
Peter Scott is in the running to win the 'Fundraiser' award after completing a half marathon on a treadmill last year, at the age of 70. Pete organised the event off his own bat after having a stroke in 2014.
His marathon run raised more than $11,000 for the Stroke Foundation and spread awareness of stroke along the way.
"It's natural to feel a bit proud, I guess, but I am more gratified by the knowledge that I have helped move the needle in the right direction for the Foundation in their quest to educate us on all aspects related to stroke." Peter said.
Stroke Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Dr Lisa Murphy, congratulated Peter on an amazing achievement.
"Running a half marathon is no easy feat but Pete did it with determination, grit, and purpose and Stroke Foundation is so grateful for his contribution to helping our cause," Dr Murphy said.
"His drive to share his own experience as a way of educating others on the risks of stroke is to be admired."
The Stroke Awards celebrate the unsung heroes in our community who go above and beyond to improve the lives of Australians affected by stroke. This includes the survivors of stroke, carers, volunteers, fundraisers, health professional, researchers and members of the community.
The Fundraiser of the Year category recognises people who have gone above and beyond to raise awareness and funds for stroke in Australia. The finalists are:

• Peter Scott - VIC
• Nick Beever - VIC
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Melbourne on May 4, 2023.
