Remote communities across Australia will receive specialised language, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy (LLND) skills training as part of a three-year pilot program.
Minister for Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business, Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash, said the Foundation Skills for Your Future - Remote Community Pilots will target four remote communities, one each in the Northern Territory, Western Australia, South Australia and Queensland.
"The pilots will not only give people in these communities improved training in foundational skills providing lifelong benefits, but will assist the Morrison Government identify proven approaches to inform future training programs in remote regions," Minister Cash said.
The Morrison Government has called for expressions of interest from Indigenous service providers to work with remote communities to co-design and deliver adult LLND skills training that is uniquely tailored, flexible and locally relevant to each community.
"The pilots will not just improve those foundational skills of people in these communities, but will also build capacity and inform new approaches to successful training in rural and remote areas.
"The Department will also work closely with other Government agencies, such as the National Indigenous Australians Agency, to ensure a coordinated approach across Government," Minister Cash said.
The Foundation Skills for Your Future program, part of the Delivering Skills for Today and Tomorrow package, provides $9.9 million over three years for the four Remote Community Pilots.
