Currently the Pioneer Park toilet facilities in East Devonport are locked during the hours 5pm to 8am daily.
A new smart lock system has been installed on this facility, which will enable the public to access the toilets via an App during the hours when the toilets are closed – improving accessibility, convenience and safety.
The use of a smart lock system limits access to genuine users, reducing the incidence of vandalism and anti-social behaviour.
The system will also support improved usage control, resulting in cleaner, better-maintained facilities. Additionally, the reduced risk of vandalism will ensure that the toilets remain open and more regularly functioning, as the facilities require closure for maintenance and repairs when they are subject to vandalism.
The smart code delivery allows for convenient contactless and keyless access.
To use the toilet, scan the barcode on the sign affixed to the facility with your smartphone. This will open a web page and ask you to enter your mobile number. After you submit your number, you'll get a one-time verification code by text message. Use this code to unlock the door. The door will unlock in about 5 -10 seconds, and the light will flash green to show that it's open. Once inside, use the regular privacy lock to secure the door from the inside.
You will have the option to download the "Unlock Devonport" App. It is recommended that you download the App, as you won't be required to submit your phone details again for verification purposes when using amenities where the smart lock has been installed.
Mobile phone details submitted for the purposes of access to the smart lock toilet will be managed, accessed and stored in accordance with Council's Personal Information Protection Policy (Council Policies | Devonport City Council) and the Personal Information Protection Act 2004 (Tas). No personal identifiable details are required.
*Please also note that the third-party App provider also have access to the mobile phone number submitted.
