Pistol, Sawn-off Shotgun Seized

A .22 calibre pistol and a loaded, sawn-off single barrel shotgun were seized by police during the recent search of a Launceston property.

Officers from Taskforce Raven and detectives from the Northern Criminal Investigation Division also seized ammunition, methamphetamines and a large quantity of counterfeit cash during the search of a private residence at Newstead on Sunday, 22 February.

A 34-year-old Newstead man was arrested at the property and later charged with a series of firearms offences including possessing a shortened firearm, possessing a firearm without the appropriate licence category and failing to ensure the safekeeping of a firearm.

He was also charged with motor vehicle offences and the possession of counterfeit money.

A 46-year-old Newstead woman will be proceeded against by summons in relation to minor drug offences and possession of counterfeit money.

The man's arrest is the result of ongoing investigations into drugs and firearms-related crime by northern-based Taskforce Raven.
