Playground closure during Kyneton Library upgrade

Kyneton Library playground will be closed briefly today, Monday 29 July, as works continue on upgrading and revamping the library and surrounding area.

The playground will be out of action for a couple of hours today and then for short periods in coming weeks as contractors carry out landscaping works to make the area more accessible and appealing.

The library's heating and cooling system has already been upgraded to provide a more comfortable community space and work on the construction of a new entrance will begin in early August.

The library upgrade project is a partnership between Council, Goldfields Library Corporation and the Victorian Government and is expected to take about two months to complete.

Apart from the designated closure dates and times, the library will remain open and every effort will be made to minimise disruption.

The Victorian Government will contribute $150,000 to the works as part of its Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, and Council will contribute $100,000.

Improvements to staff areas in the library, which was funded in Council's 2018/19 budget, will be completed at the same time.

The four libraries in the shire – Kyneton, Woodend, Gisborne and Romsey – are managed by Goldfields Library Corporation on behalf of Council.
