Poisonous mushrooms warning

Poisonous mushrooming include Death Cap mushrooms (Amanita Phalloides) and Yellow staining mushrooms (Agaricus xanthodermus) are currently growing around Victoria.

  • Extreme caution is advised when picking and consuming wild mushrooms.
  • If in doubt - don't consume!
  • Consuming one Death Cap mushroom is sufficient to kill an adult.
  • There is no home test available to distinguish safe and edible mushrooms from poisonous mushrooms.
  • Cooking, peeling or drying these mushrooms does not remove or inactivate the poison.
  • Mushrooms purchased from a supermarket, green grocer or other reputable source are safe to eat.
