Police address latest road fatality, South Australia

Tragically overnight a 78-year-old man from Victoria was killed on our roads.

This recorded the 100th death on our roads in 2019 but it is not just about numbers.

As the Christmas and holiday period approaches, South Australia Police are again urging all motorists in regional, rural and metro areas to take extra care on our roads.

"We are coming into the beginning of the festive and holiday season. We have seen too many deaths on our roads so far this year and I urge every person who uses our roads to take greater vigilance when driving either a short distance or for extended periods of time," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Linda Williams.

"We need help from everyone across our community. Again I plead with all motorists; whether from South Australia or visiting this state, to heed the warnings and pay attention to the road rules.

"The rules are there to help you safely end your journey – so don't ignore them and make it your last journey.

"Please wear your seatbelt, stay off your phone, stick to the speed limit – these aren't suggestions, these are lifesaving decisions for you to make. Too many people are making poor choices when using our roads.

"Now is not the time to become complacent behind the wheel. Help us stop these fatalities, because road safety is a shared responsibility."
