Police appeal after assault in Inverell

Police are appealing for information after a teenage boy was assaulted in Inverell last week, NSW Police say.

Shortly after 11.30pm on Saturday (30 April 2016), a 15-year-old boy and four friends were at a park on McIntyre Street when they were approached by a group of five men.

Police have been told that the men allegedly made some comments towards the boy and his friends before chasing them.

The 15-year-old hid in some bushes nearby on Harland Street. He was allegedly found by two of the men, before one of them struck him in the face.

Both men fled in a car described as being similar to a silver or grey Holden Commodore sedan.

The boy and his friends went to a nearby home, where the resident provided first-aid before contacting emergency services.

The boy was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Inverell Hospital for treatment to a cut above his eye.

Officers from Inverell Police Station conducted a patrol of the area, however could not locate the men.

Police investigating the matter are hoping to speak with five men who might be able to assist with inquiries.

The five men are described as being Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander in appearance, aged in their 20s, wearing jumpers. One of the men is described as wearing a flannelette jacket.

Police have also been told that two 4WDs were seen in the vicinity at the time of the incident and the occupants may also be able to assist with inquiries.
