Police appeal for information after assault on elderly woman at Croydon

Police are appealing for information following an assault on an elderly woman in Sydney's Inner West earlier in the week.

About 4pm (Friday 20 September 2019) an 88-year-old woman left her home on Lion Street, Croydon and walked north to the intersection of Liverpool Road, Croydon.

Shortly after an unknown male approached the woman, allegedly pushing her to the ground.

The man then dragged the woman to the side of a house, on the adjoining Lion Street, before trying to rob her. The man threw away her walking stick before leaving the scene.

About 4.30pm, a passer-by heard the elderly woman's cries for help and rendered assistance until emergency services arrived.

The woman was then transported to Concord Public Hospital for further treatment.

Officers from Burwood Police Area Command then began their investigations.

The man is described as being about 50 years of age, has short hair, an olive complexion and was last seen wearing a baggy, dark coloured jacket and dark coloured track-suit pants.

The woman remains in Concord Public Hospital in a stable condition, awaiting surgery.
