Police appeal for information after convenience store robbery at Campbelltown

Officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command are appealing for information following an armed robbery earlier today.

About 1.00pm (Sunday 16 August 2020), police were called to a convenience store on Hoddle Street, Campbelltown, after a man wearing a motorcycle helmet entered the store armed with a pistol.

He approached the counter and pointed the firearm at a 62-year-old male employee, while demanding money and cigarettes.

An amount of cash was handed over and the armed man ran from the store and jumped onto a black and white Yamaha road bike, which was parked outside.

The employee gave chase and gained the attention of two bystanders men outside the store, who managed to wrestle the armed man from the motor bike.

After a short struggle, the armed man managed to escape on foot. He was last seen running towards the rear fence of units in Hoddle Street.

A crime scene was established and forensically examined. Detectives are now calling for witnesses, or anyone who may have information that can assist.

Inquiries are continuing.
