Police appeal for information following St Albans assault

Police are appealing for further information after a woman was seriously assaulted in St Albans last night, Victoria Police say.

The woman, a 77-year-old from St Albans, was located by a male passerby in a Willaton Street driveway about 7pm on Thursday, 1 February.

She was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

A crime scene was established and the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined.

Detectives from the Homicide Squad are investigating the incident and are appealing for public assistance in relation to the incident.

It’s believed a woman described as being of Asian appearance, aged between 20-30 years of age wearing pink pyjamas or loose clothing was seen in the area around the time of the assault.

Detectives would like to speak to anyone who saw the woman in the area or has information regarding her identity.

Police are also looking for the man who initially located the victim, as he left the scene before speaking to police.

He is described as being perceived to be of Middle Eastern appearance, aged in his late 40s to early 50s with a medium build, 170-175cm tall with dark short hair and spoke limited English.

He was wearing casual clothing including a dark jacket.

At this stage police do not believe he was involved in the assault but will have information that can assist investigators.

Detectives are also keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has CCTV or dashcam footage that possibly captured the assault or the events leading up to it.
