Police appeal for public assistance after carjacking at Walgett

Police are appealing for public assistance after an alleged carjacking in the state's north last week.

Officers attached to Central North Police District have been told about 7pm on Friday 15 July 2022, a man was approached by two unknown males whilst sitting in his parked car on Peel Street, Walgett.

The males allegedly demanded money and smashed the driver's seat window before assaulting the driver.

They then grabbed the car keys before pulling the driver from the car and fleeing the scene in the stolen maroon Kia Sportage along Peel Street and left into Euroka Street.

Following inquiries, the vehicle was located a short time later on Bate Street, where a crime scene was established, and the car was forensically examined.

As inquiries continue, police are urging anyone with information about the incident, or potential dashcam footage, to contact Walgett Police Station on (02) 6820 3999.
