Police appeal for witnesses following Ballarat crash

Ballarat police are appealing for public assistance after a male and female ran from an alleged stolen car in Ballarat’s CBD earlier today, Victoria Police say.

The incident took place on Mair Street when police observed a black Hyundai Elantra they believed to have been stolen, travelling towards the roundabout on the corner of Yuille and Mair Streets just before 10.30am.

Police were travelling behind the car when the driver accelerated.

The driver lost control, travelling through the roundabout and colliding with another car travelling the opposite way on Mair Street.

Two occupants ran from the stolen vehicle, the male driver and his female passenger.

The male driver, who ran along Yuille Street, is described as 15-18 years of age, medium to solid build, around 170cm tall, wearing a distinctive black t-shirt.

Police believe the female passenger was around 15 years of age and was wearing a camel coloured waist length coat and had dark hair.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 39-year-old Black Hill woman, received minor injuries and was conveyed to hospital.

Her two children were not injured.

Police are appealing for anyone who may know the identity of the man and woman who ran from the scene and are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
