Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance following a collision in Caulfield South on 24 August.
Investigators have been told the man was crossing Hawthorn Road when he was struck by a white Peugeot about 12.40pm.
The 82-year-old Caulfield North man was transported to hospital in a critical condition but later died in hospital.
The driver, a 29-year-old Glenhuntly woman, stopped at the scene to assist police.
The investigation into the cause of the collision remains ongoing.
