Police are responding to fatal collision in Ferntree Gully

Police are investigating a fatal collision in Ferntree Gully on 27 August.

A Highway Patrol unit observed a silver vehicle allegedly speeding just after 5.30pm and attempted to pull it over on Ferntree Gully Road.

The vehicle took off at speed, travelling through red lights and collided with two other cars.

The female passenger in the silver vehicle has died at the scene.

The male driver is under police guard in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A child in one of the vehicles struck was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the driver of that vehicle was not injured.

The male driver from the other vehicle struck was not injured.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined at this stage.

As the death occurred following contact with police, as is standard procedure, Professional Standards Command will have oversight of the investigation.
