Police are responding to fatal collision in Violet Town

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a fatal collision in Violet Town on 19 September.

Two trucks collided on the Hume Freeway just after 2pm.

Both male drivers were airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

One of the drivers, a 56-year-old Maldon man, has died in hospital this evening.

The other driver, a 53-year-old man from Parkes in New South Wales, remains in hospital in a critical condition.

The Hume Freeway is expected to have significant traffic delays for some time.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are being investigated.
