Police are responding to fatal crash at Thebarton

A young motorcyclist has died in a crash at Thebarton this morning.

About 11.10am on Friday 3 March, police and emergency services were called to the intersection of James Congdon Drive and Port Road, Thebarton after reports that a motorcycle had collided with several stationary cars that were stopped at a red traffic light on Port Road heading west.

The rider was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition, but sadly the 23-year-old Para Hills man died a short time later.

Port Road was closed to all westbound traffic out of the city, also affecting tram services, while Major Crash investigators examined the crash scene.

The road has reopened and police thank the public for their patience.

The young man's death is the 27th life lost on South Australian roads so far this year. The road toll at the same time last year was 12.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage that may assist with the investigation into the fatality can provide their details via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
