  • Western Australia to take on South Australia on Saturday, 27 February 2027 at Optus Stadium in landmark 50th anniversary year of AFL State of Origin
  • Blockbuster event expected to attract thousands of interstate visitors and support WA tourism and local jobs for Western Australians
  • Events play a significant role in the Cook Labor Government's economic diversification strategy

Footy fans can mark their calendars, with the 2027 AAMI AFL Origin set to return to Optus Stadium on Saturday, 27 February.

Following the sellout success of the 2026 event, Western Australia will take on South Australia in next year's highly anticipated clash, bringing together some of the country's best AFL talent.

The blockbuster event will mark the 50-year anniversary of the first ever State of Origin match, where Western Australia went head-to-head with Victoria at Subiaco Oval in 1977.

The 2027 match is expected to attract thousands of interstate visitors to Western Australia, providing a boost to the State's tourism and hospitality sectors while showcasing Perth and its world-class sporting infrastructure to audiences across the country.

The match will be complemented by a program of community and fan activations, including open training sessions, a footy fest match-day carnival, and city-wide activations.

The return of AFL Origin to Perth in 2026 marked the first elite-level interstate showdown since 1999 and attracted more than 58,000 fans to Optus Stadium, including thousands of interstate visitors.

Revenue from the sold-out 2026 match, totalling more than $1.5 million is being reinvested into WA football through AFL Origin legacy initiatives, including targeted school programs and regional talent development. Revenue from the 2027 event will also support increased community participation in the sport.

Perth will again take centre stage hosting Origin in 2029, when Western Australia will take on Victoria at Optus Stadium in a blockbuster rematch.

Securing major events such as AFL Origin forms part of the Cook Labor Government's economic diversification strategy, growing the tourism sector and supporting local jobs for Western Australians.

Tickets for 2027 AFL Origin will be released to the general public Thursday, 3 December at 9am AWST, with club members having early access from Wednesday, 2 December.
