Police are responding to fatal crash at Tamworth

Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred near Tamworth overnight.

About 10.50pm on Thursday 14 April 2019, a Toyota Rav 4 was travelling south east along Manilla Road at Hallsville, about 15 kilometres from Tamworth.

Near the intersection with Appleby Lane, the Toyota collided head on with a Holden Commodore.

Emergency services were contacted and officers from Oxley Police District attended.

As a result of the crash the driver of the Toyota, a 43-year-old man died at the scene.

His front seat passenger, a 29-year-old man suffered minor lacerations and was conveyed to Tamworth Base Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Holden, a 34 year-old man was trapped in his vehicle before being released.

He was conveyed to Tamworth Base Hospital and then airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in an unstable and critical condition.

Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue.
