Police are responding to fatal crash - Mount Kembla

Emergency services remain at the scene of a fatal single-vehicle crash near Wollongong.

Around 3.20pm (Friday 21 February 2020), police and emergency services responded to a report of a vehicle on fire on Cordeaux Road, Mount Kembla.

On arrival, police found a car well alight. The car had struck a power pole, which has caused some power outages in the area.

The body of a person has been located in the car at the scene. It is yet to be formally identified.

Officers from Wollongong Police District have established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation.

Cordeaux Road at Mount Kembla is closed in both directions, with local traffic diversions in place at William James Drive to the east and Stones Road to the west.

Motorists in the area are advised to avoid the area or delay their trip.
