Police are responding to fatal crash near Albury

A woman has died following a two-vehicle crash in the state's south today.

Emergency services were called to Bungowannah Road, Jindera, north of Albury, about 1pm (Saturday 25 February 2023), after reports of a two-vehicle crash.

Police have been told a Nissan Dualis travelling westbound and a Toyota Prado travelling east collided head-on, trapping the drivers.

Officers from Murray River Traffic and Highway Patrol attended along with NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The Nissan driver, a 32-year-old woman, died at the scene. Two passengers – aged 12 and three – were freed from the vehicle uninjured.

The Toyota driver, a 21-year-old man, was freed and airlifted to hospital suffering serious leg injuries. Two passengers – a 60-year-old woman and 44-year-old man – were also taken to hospital for treatment.

A crime scene was established with specialist officers from the Southern Region Crash Investigation Unit attending to examine the scene.

An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

As inquiries continue, Bungowannah Road remains closed in both directions with local traffic diversions in place.
