Police are responding to serious crash, Cairns

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating a serious car and pedestrian incident in Cairns North on August 31.

Initial investigations indicate a 16-year-old girl was crossing the road when she was hit by a Ford Mondeo on Sheridan Street, Cairns North around 3.20pm.

The girl was taken to Cairns hospital in a serious condition before being flown to Townsville Hospital for significant head injuries.

The 29-year-old driver of the vehicle was uninjured.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any dashcam of the incident is urged to come forward.

Investigations are ongoing.
