Police Arrest After Carjack, Pursuit Through SW Sydney

A man remains under police guard following an alleged carjacking and pursuit across Sydney's south-west today.

Just after 9am (Monday 6 February 2023), officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command attempted to stop a blue Suzuki on Hoxton Park Road, Green Valley.

When the driver allegedly failed to comply, a pursuit was initiated, continuing through surrounding suburbs.

After the pursuit was terminated, Polair observed the vehicle entering the carpark of a shopping centre on George Street, Liverpool.

It is alleged the driver exited the vehicle, fleeing on foot through the shopping centre.

Assisted by North West Metropolitan Operations Support Group, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and the Dog Unit, a perimeter of the shopping centre was established and the driver – an 18-year-old man – was pursued on foot through various shops and service ways before being arrested.

The man was taken to Liverpool Police Station, before he was transferred to Liverpool Hospital for an injury sustained to his hand, where he remains under police guard.

Police will allege about 4.30pm on Friday (3 February 2023), a woman was sitting in the back seat of her car with her six-month-old baby in a shopping centre on Church Street, Parramatta, when a man threatened her with a firearm and demanded she get out of the car.

The 33-year-old woman and baby exited the vehicle, before the man allegedly drove away in the blue Suzuki. The woman and baby were not physically injured.

Investigations into the incidents continue.
