Police arrest four after affray, police officers assaulted in Liverpool

Four men have been arrested after two police officers were allegedly assaulted responding to an affray in Sydney's south west earlier today.

Just before 1.30am (Sunday 3 March 2019), police were called to a licensed premises on Macquarie Street, Liverpool, after reports of a brawl involving up to 20 people.

On arrival of officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command, the group – who were on the street – separated and a number of men were given verbal directions.

It's alleged one man became aggressive towards police and as he was being restrained, the other men became violent towards officers.

Police will further allege a male senior constable was put in a headlock and hit several times in the head.

A constable was also allegedly assaulted while attempting to assist the injured senior constable who sustained bruising, swelling and lacerations to his head and minor lacerations to his arms and hands but did not require hospital treatment.

Additional police arrived and four men – aged 19, 23, 25 and 29 – were arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station where they are assisting with inquiries.
